What is Kids Ministry?
The Kids Ministry at Open Door is committed to building the gospel of Jesus Christ into the lives of the preschool and elementary age children in our care. We are committed to instructing children according to their ability to learn, understand, and apply the truths of the Bible. It is our goal to lay a gospel foundation in the lives of children so the Spirit can work in their hearts to bring them to saving faith in Jesus Christ
What We Do
Through Sunday programming and an ongoing partnership with parents, we aim to model the character of God, instruct young hearts in His Word, and cultivate friendships anchored in a shared hope as our children begin their faith journey.
PRESCHOOL CLASSES
On Sunday mornings, we offer classes for birth-4 year olds during the 9:15am and 11am services. In their classes we provide meaningful play and interaction while you attend Worship. Children two and up will participate in a Sunday School lesson, which is reinforced through centers and crafts.
K-2ND GRADE CLASSES
These classes will consist of Scripture reading, a weekly lesson, and related activities. We look forward to helping your children love God and grow in their faith as they study the Scriptures. K-2nd grade classes meet downstairs at 9:15am in Rooms 112-114.
BLAZE
Blaze provides K-2nd children with an opportunity to engage in corporate worship in an age-appropriate setting. Understanding the needs of children, the Blaze experience is meant to be engaging and fun while also being purposeful and instructive. Blaze meets downstairs in the Children's Center at 11am.
UPPER ELEMENTARY
Beginning in third grade, we encourage parents to bring their child with them to the worship service. We also understand that some may not be quite ready and would benefit from an age-appropriate class. We offer a 3rd-5th grade Sunday School class in the Student Center at both 9:15 and 11:00. This allows our students to continue to mature as they anticipate worshiping upstairs and provides a place for guests to connect when they visit.
Kid's TREK & AWANA (Sunday PM)
On Sunday nights, we offer AWANA for our preschool kids (ages 2-4) and Kid's TREK for our elementary-age students (K-5th). AWANA emphasizes Scripture memory and the basics of the gospel while Kid's TREK leads kids to
Treasure our God,
Reflect His Glory,
Engage Our World, and
Know His Word. AWANA & Kid's TREK meet on Sundays from 5:15 to 6:45 pm, from August to May.
TRAILHEADS
Our Next Generation Ministry is designed around developmental milestones that signify the start of a new "trail" in our ministry. When a child reaches a new trail, we hold a Trailhead, an event for parents at which we celebrate God's faithfulness on the completed trail and look forward to the trail ahead.
